Here’s a project I just finished last night: an LED moon phase visualizer~~

It works by scraping information from a website regarding the current moon phase using Processing, which in turn sends that info to an Arduino that’s hooked up to the LEDs.

The moon is made up of a total of 62 LEDs in 5 parallel circuits. Design, construction and coding were all done by me. :]

I’m thinking about putting up a tutorial on how to make your own once summertime comes (hopefully a simpler version that doesn’t require an Arduino) . Would anyone be interested if I made one?

I still don’t know exactly what I want to do with my senior year as an art student. All I know is that I’ve finally found something that I’m truly excited about making. And I’m excited to be excited about it.
For a few weeks now I’ve going through a mini-crisis, questioning life and education and why I’m even getting a university education, etc - none of which I post about on here. And to top things off, I started feeling unmotivated to work on any projects similar to the new media projects I’ve done in the past (like the wearable music visualizer or wall visualizer).
The white lines in the piece above are not paint, they’re created from blue foil that’s been removed. Here’s a photo of the original screen I used to create it. The design is hand-drawn, no computer printing involved!

I think this is only the beginning of a new exploration for me. I’m experimenting with completely non-digital media for now. Which is funny because it’s almost impossible for me to imagine a life where I don’t use the computer all the time. And it’s scary to know I feel that way.
But enough of my rambling~ Just wanted to let everyone know I have a little bit of excitement and direction back in my life. :]

Today’s outfit was a casual 2NE1 inspired look. :D
A little bit of background story first. A few years ago, after my first boyfriend and I broke up, all I listened to for awhile were US Top 40 songs (UgHh). There wasn’t any super good reason for it; the only reason I can think of is because all of those songs are super loud and catchy and don’t make you think about anything deep. :p
This time around I’ve been listening to K-Pop (Korean Pop) nonstop. Specifically, mostly the newer Wonder Girls albums and 2NE1. A complete upgrade from the top 40s I think, haha.
But anyway, that’s probably the reason I felt compelled to dress like this~

Breakdown of the outfit:
Digital Superstar Shirt: Handmade and sold in my Etsy :]
Cheetah-print Jacket: Forever21
Bracelet: Forever21
Yellow Lace Socks: I think H&M, but am not completely sure because I stole them from my mom.. ;p
Studded Litas: MakeMeChic.com

Oh, and in case anyone saw me earlier in the day, I did switch from skinny jeans to shorts because it got warmer. ;p Silly midwestern weather…
