Renegade Craft Fair, 09-11-2011
Here’s Melissa and me at the Renegade Craft Fair on Sunday. :D It’s held in Wicker Park and is usually on the weekend of or around the 11th, which also happens to be Melissa’s birthday (happy birthdayy ;p ). We ended up matching obnoxious colors on accident..

My mom wanted to join in for a photo~

On the drive there (I miss living in the city! D: ) we saw a car with this plate. Haha, kinda fits me..

The booth Tee and Toast, a reallyyy colorful shop, had a sign asking you to guess what the mushroom thing was. Melissa wears it very well, but it’s not a hat. :p Can you guess what it is?

Then we stumbled upon the awesome booth of Unbiased Clothing. They sell bamboo-made clothing and accessories, but what I was really interested in were the Teeny Screenies. They’re miniature pre-made screens, many of which have a repeatable pattern (they also come with a miniature squeegee and a sample packet of paint to get you started, all for $10). It’s such a good idea, I’ve never seen anyone make or sell something like that before!

I ended up buying two… you will definitely be seeing some new shirts up for sale soon. ;p

The only other thing I bought was this poster. I really couldn’t help it. D: Every year I visit the fair I drool over the screen-printed posters, but I’ve never actually purchased one. This year I found a booth called Peaceful Traveler. Some of the posters are simple, vintage (I don’t even know if that’s how you’d describe them) maps of cities and railroads. Their other posters are retro 80s neon designs.
I honestly loved them all, and couldn’t decide between the moon phases or a map of San Francisco… In the end I just had to get the moon. I really love the moon~

My friend Nick met up with me later, after Melissa left for an unknown birthday surprise from her boyfriend (he brought her to the zoo ;p ). He took professional shots of my outfit for me. :p I wasn’t sure what to expect, since in the past he managed to take a photo of me that turned out as a blank screen of white… ;p
Bodysuit and shirt sewn by me, shoes decorated by me and I hand-studded the shorts. :]
This is me on my way to take the camera away from him so that he will stop shooting.
I also saw my friend Bella (I know people in Chicago. Tumblr people. whooo!). :D Matt decided he didn’t want to see me.
Oh, and I was supposed to look for hat shops for a friend in my costume fabrication class.. There was only one shop I noticed, called Pretty Good Things. I’ve seen her work in past years and I am in love with it! One day when I have money (haha..) I want to get one of her headband hats.. my favorite are in the animal kingdom collection.
It seemed like there were fewer bright, obnoxious and colorful booths compared to past years, replaced by more of the same vintage-feel booths… but all in all the fair was pretty fun. :] Hopefully Melissa and I can be vendors if we apply even earlier next year (and not last minute)!
For some reason my posts end up super long when I travel or visit somewhere.. How do you guys feel about these long, “normal” blog posts?
