Toast came to keep me company~

steps for dealing with silly life problems

  • avoid talking about it in detail on the internet, because so many people I know in real-life read my blog
  • STOP feeling sorry for myself because I feel like I have no one, especially of the guy variety, to talk to about it in person (which is more satisfying than whining on the internet)
  • continue to eat mint ice cream (walgreens is the best brand because you get a huge box AND because it turns chewy on the edges)
  • find someone to give me a hug soon because Toast doesn’t always let me hug him :c

resolution #1 : no more uneccessary online purchases

This includes:

  • clothes
  • shoes

This does not include:

  • books
  • things I would buy in store anyway (sketchbooks, hair dye)
  • really good deals (like a dress on ebay for $5 including shipping)

There are always awesome new fashion items coming out and there’s no way I could afford to keep up with them. It’s so tempting to keep a list of things I would get once I have the money. But that would just be uneccessarily spending hard-earned money that I should be using on groceries. :p

So my solution to that: If I really want something that badly, I should find a way to make it.

I kind of started putting this into practice a couple days ago.. I was drooling over the “eyeball” items under women’s clothing on ebay for a few days. But instead of caving and purchasing leggings or a sweatshirt, I used my $2 thrifted sweater and diy-ed my own eyeball sweater. :D Best part was that it’s in the colors I like~

Hope I can keep to this resolution~

Outfit today :D

Sorry for looking so tired, I have no idea why I decided to wake up at 6am today..

Bone design was drawn on the $20 jacket from LA using Sharpie Oil Paint Pens (another photo here~), necklace was bargained down at Target because the glow paint had peeled off in store (yay!).

That’s so great to hear!

You definitely don’t need a serger. :] I went 9 years of my life not even knowing they existed, haha. The main thing that sergers are used for is speed (and they work really well with knit fabric).

A sewing machine is plenty strong enough for clothing projects. And to be honest, “couture” sewing almost never uses a serger. Which shows that you can get good quality work by hand, machine or serger. :D

If you want to acheive a similar finish as a serger using a normal sewing machine, you can do both a zigzag stitch and a straight stitch on the same seam (I included a drawing below). The zigzag will help prevent fraying like a serger, and the straight stitch gives the seam extra strength.

Ahh I know, I’ve been talking about the tutorial I was making for awhile now. Truth is, now that school started again that tutorial’s been put on hold for a little. :o

But here is the link I’ve been referring people to -> Screen Printing: Cheap, Dirty, and at Home. :] It’s the most cost-efficient, though not the most “correct” or professional, method for people who want to learn the very basics of screenprinting.

I think online people call it two-tone hair (not exactly sure)? I bleached and dyed the colored portion of my hair, and the brown hair is actually my natural hair color. You might be able to ask her to dye and/or bleach one section and either leave the other section or dye that too.

Hope that helps somewhat~

Party Cat from a cartoon by Nedroid. :D It’s a series of 6 comics and can be found on this page. It’s my favorite thing ever, I re-read it all the time.

Aw thank you! :]

I think one reason that my hair isn’t too damaged is because its naturally quite oily, to the point where I don’t really feel comfortable unless I wash it every morning (though once in a great while I’ll try not to). I use normal Herbal Essences shampoo and a lot of Garnier’s Triple Nutrition conditioner. Once in awhile I’ll also spray my hair with the Triple Nutrition Nutrient Spray at night~

Yes of course! I love making tutorials and I’ve been making them pretty regularly for awhile now. c; You can view all the tutorials I’ve made so far here. Also if anyone has any tutorial requests, I’d love to hear them! I can’t promise that I will be able to make any or all of them, but I’ll definitely try to do some. :]]

Finally doneeee *o*
I didn’t want to go to sleep until I finished it (it’s currently about 3 am here). Started working on it about 6 hours ago.. I don’t quite remember why I thought hand-embroidering the veins was a good idea..
More info tomorrow, for now I should probably get to sleep soon, haha..

does anyone ever wonder what they’re doing with their life??

I frequently do. But instead of letting my doubts or lack of a clear path slow me down, I try to force myself to keep busy on new projects, though it’s difficult to do sometimes.. Even if they aren’t what I feel like I “should” be doing, they usually lead me to find something that will lead me forward.

To me, working on random projects always feels better than sitting around feeling sorry for myself or questioning the world (those questions are too big anyway).

Which makes me recall one instance over winter break that reminded me how much I love my family. I was lying on my bed (not even with a computer) and thinking about how little money I have, how maybe I won’t find a way to make enough money to live, how I reallyyy wanted a pair of blue fuzzy platform shoes that Charlotte Free was selling but I didn’t have the money for, and how I couldn’t even justify spending the money on supplies to make my own platform shoes even though I was craving a pair.

My dad came up to my room and forced me to accept some cash to buy the supplies for platform shoes (flip flops, pretty duct tape, shoe glue). I say forced because I really dislike accepting money from my parents, since I willingly quit my job a few months ago and I don’t want that to be a burden on them.

But it worked. I started the platform shoes that night, finished them a couple days later, immediately made a pair of shoes for my mom and I was magically out of my slump. All thanks to the support and understanding of my family.

What kind of slumps have you guys had, diy-related or just life in general? How’d you get out of them? I think it’s completely normal for everyone to go through this occasionally.. but it’s also good to know of ways to get out of them as quickly as posible~
